Hello, friends!
Well, well, well. . . . This is like Hello, World! all over again.
It’s been a while since I’ve written to you. But, no, this isn’t my first blog post.
However, . . . this lapse in posting is not mea culpa!
Exactly three months ago—on September 11th, believe it or not—something fell and hit me on the head! I was optimistic about a quick ’n’ easy return to normal life. This was because the emergency room personnel I saw were optimistic about this.
As it turns out, though, traumatic brain injuries are no joke, even the mild form of TBI known as a concussion. And what I learned from my concussion-specialist doctor is that some brain injuries heal as quickly as the ER personnel predicted for me (a week or so), and other brain injuries take years to heal, . . . and it’s impossible to predict the healing time based on how hard the head seemed to have gotten hit.
In my last blog post, I wrote that I would tell you more about the circumstances of the traumatic incident in question and its aftermath. I do intend to write about my experiences. But since this has not been an easy autumn (not to use the word fall) for me (the T in TBI has lived up to its promise), I will not be writing about any of this just yet.
But here’s the important thing:
I’m baaaaaaack!!!! Henceforward, let’s resume our regular schedule of blog posts about reading and thinking and wisdom and love and anxiety and the self. But do be lenient on me. There may be some lapses in the schedule, or short ’n’ sweet posts, as my brain continues to heal.
Not to worry: my doctor assures me that I will make a full recovery. He just doesn’t know how long this will take.
Thank you for sticking by me through this (insert the dreaded T-word here) time. Sending love to you all. And “see” you on Friday!
Missed you, Liza, glad you’re back!
Thanks so much, Ann!
Best wish to you on your speedy recovery. Welcome back.
Thanks, Olivia!

Thanks, Carol!
Glad to hear it and looking forward to connecting again soon!
Thanks, and congrats on all the eventful things in your life!!
Wow. Very scary. Likely your first brush with mortality? Do take it as your body tells you, we are here and love your words.
Aw, thanks. LOL, not my first brush with mortality, no… Best wishes, Irene!
All of us at Takoma Writers have missed you so much! Welcome back.
Thanks – hope to see you and the group very soon!
Good to see you back again in this space! I am a member of the TBI club as well – hit by a falling tree branch. Take it easy on yourself with delicious rest every day 💕
Oh sorry to hear that you experienced TBI as well. I can’t believe how many people have recently told me that they or someone close to them have experienced it…. Thanks for the kind words!
Cheers for you!
Thank you!
I add my Welcome Back! I suspect you are tough; this is not the first T you’ve wrangled with. As Pete Seeger used to say: Take it easy … but take it!
LOL you said it, Jack 😉
I’m so happy you are feeling better. I was concerned when I didn’t see your blog after a month. I’m happy for you!
Thanks, Jean!
back for the attack. You go, Woman!
I don’t like this part of getting old known as “it takes longer to heal from things back when we were immortal”.
My close friend is dealing with a similar “mild” concussion which… when we think about it, what’s mild about anything hitting your noggin?
LOL seriously. My doctor actually said that to me. I said, the ER ppl said it was supposed to be a mild concussion. He said, there’s no such thing…. Best wishes to you and your friend!
Ah yes, I already read this one on Facebook and gave my response. Once again, however….
WELCOME BACK, LIZA, I MISS YOU, GIRL!!
