Poetry at the Port 2020
Tonight’s the Night!!!!

This evening, I’ll be performing poetry from my collection of love sonnets. Come out and see my live performance! Bring your own poems or songs or jokes to share at the open mic!

Who

Me. You. All our friends. Plus cool people we haven’t met . . . yet.

What

Poetry at the Port! Poetry, music, and comedy, performed in English and other languages. Happy hour lasts all evening.

When

Tonight! Monday, January 27, 2020 at 7pm.

Where

Port-au-Prince Haitian Cuisine, located at 7912 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland.

Why

Because you love poetry and art. Because you want to see me perform. Because you’re curious about my love sonnets. Because you don’t have anything else planned for the evening. Because you ❤ DC-area rush-hour traffic.

How

If you drive, there’s free street parking (for the evening, not during the day). If you use public transportation, there are several bus stops nearby, and the Silver Spring Metro is less than a mile away.

Today’s the Day!!!!

I know that some of you won’t be able to make it out tonight. (Surely this is because of a dire emergency that must be attended to!) For those who won’t be able to come, here’s a little something in iambic pentameter for you to appreciate today. (Yep, so be sure to read it with stress on every other syllable, starting with a non-stressed syllable. Because today’s the day for Shakespearean rhythm and rhyme!) And for those who are coming tonight, think of this as a tasty appetizer. . . .

“Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind;
And therefore is wing’d Cupid painted blind:”

—William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Act 1, Scene 1, c.1590-1600

Have you had any encounters with Cupid lately?
