Like many people this year, I am having to cut back on spending. This means buying fewer books and relying more on my public library. But my library isnβt the same comfortable place it used to be. . . .
So begins my most recent article on the Silent Book Club blog. Read the rest of the article!
Is your local public library open? Are they lending books? Do you find yourself patronizing your local library more or less this year, in comparison with previous years? Do you find yourself buying more or fewer books this year, in comparison with previous years?
I’m so curious—leave a comment, and let me know what’s been happening in your library and book world.
The tiny little library in Plainfield WI is my lifeline to the world, and I appreciate it SO much! (I’ll have to do some research on the actual size of the population and library collection.) Connected by interlibrary loan with all the libraries between here and the “big ‘un” in Oshkosh, I have access to countless books. My library is open, masks and social distancing required–there is almost never more than myself, the librarian, and perhaps 1-2 other patrons in there at a time. The librarians know me, my adult son who lives with me, and his twin 7 year old daughters who are here (usually) every third weekend. Going to the library with us is a highlight of the twins’ agenda and the librarians are quick to find books, games, and crafts for them and to receive hugs (currently elbow bumps) in return. Don’t know what I’d do without it.
That sounds idyllic!!
